State Game Breeding Station "Alabak" is situated about 130 km from the capital Sofia and the nearest airport. Its territory covers the northwestern part of the West Rhodopes, surrounded by the Velishko ridge and the rivers Ablanitza, Bistritza, and Grancharitza.
The significant differences in altitude define the microclimatic features. The vegetation in the region of the Station is mixed - massifs of Scots and Austrian pine, of fir and beech dominate. Such diverse enviremonet is natural habitat for valuable animal species subject to hunting sucg as the red deer and the much-acclaimed wild boar, whose trophies are a dream for every hunter.
Among the predators the most common is the wolf, while among birds - the capercaillie.
