It is situated in the southern part of the Dobrudzha plain with an average altitude of about 150 m. It borders the Republic of Romania to the north and the Black Sea to the east. The proximity to the Black Sea result in a mild climate and the snow cover rarely last more than 5-6 days.
The total area of the Game Breeding Station "Balchik" is 132,041 ha and the big game hunting reserve covers an area of 7,495 ha. The are located in the Batova river-valley, very close to the Black seaside resort "Albena".
The common game species are: red deer, fallow deer, roe deer, wild boar and mouflon. The heaviest red deer trophy (19.100 kg) has been recorded in the region of "Balchik". Mouflon with a horn length of 82 to 84 cm and wild boar tusks with a length of 24 to 26 cm have been shot and the finest roe deer trophy has been evaluated as 148.3 points.
