Situated 45 km south of Bourgas in the recesses of the low hilly Strandzha mountain, it bears the name of the Ropotamo river divides an area of about 20,000 ha into two equal parts. Proximity to the Black Sea provides a mild and humid climate with relatively warm winters - the average temprerature rarely falling below 0o C.
Red deer, fallow deer, wild boar, roe deer and the main game species. Typical for the local roe deer is the great body weight up to 350 kg and its solid dark antlers, covered with numerous juts. A record for Game Breeding Station "Ropotamo" is for a red deer trophy evanluated as 250 CIC points and having a weight of 14 kg. The fallow deer trophies reach a weight of up to 4,7 kg and the national trophies reach a weight of 212 CIC points. Among a weight appoaching 250 to 300 kg tusk lenght from 28 to 30 cm .
Predator species include wolf, fox and jackal.
The eastern Black sea migratory hightway "Via Pontica" passes over the territory of "Ropotamo". This explains the presence of various wild duck and geese and particularly woodcock, which is a favorite of many foreign tourists visiting the region during the autumn and winter months.
